This course will give a broad overview of how economists think about environmental issues and translate it into policy applications. The class will be divided in three parts. Part I will cover ways in which markets fails to efficiently allocate resources in the presence of environmental externalities like pollution, along with policies to correct those failures. Part II will focus on the inefficient allocation of natural resources when property rights are poorly designed. Part III will provide an overview of the role of private actors in environmental sustainability.
