This post-proficiency English course is designed to polish students’ skills in writing policy memos, reports and briefing materials commonly used in government, non-profits and international institutions. Students will have weekly writing assignments, either a summary or a policy memo. Classes focus on discussions of readings, critiques of student papers, small group writing projects, and refinement of syntax and other writing skills. The course content is the role of demography, migration and immigration in international affairs. We will look at the graying of Japan, internal migration and the changing demographics of China, U.S. immigration and Central American immigrants., war and refugees in the Middle East and labor issues in the Gulf, among other issues.
