(-1)

This course will provide an introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with an emphasis on GIS as it applies to decision makers working in international settings. Students will learn about basic geospatial theory, tools and software, and the integration of geospatial data into traditional data analysis. A substantial portion of the course will be dedicated to hands-on learning using open-source desktop GIS software. Case studies will be tailored to areas relevant for SAIS students, including international development, infrastructure management, and environmental resource management. At the completion of the course, it’s expected that students will be conversant in the basic principles of GIS, will understand opportunities for application of GIS to their field of study, and will be prepared to continue more advanced self-study in GIS. Instruction by Kevin Chamberlain.
