This skills course introduces students to the fundamentals of financial intelligence (FININT) collection, research and analysis in support of anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) missions. The course will cover what is financial intelligence; how and by whom it is collected, accessed, and shared; and how FININT practitioners perform research and analysis to identify and mitigate the illicit placement and movement of value. Real case studies and use cases will be presented. Students will learn the practical skills of how FININT practitioners such as intelligence analysts and law enforcement investigators identify targets against which they collect, research and analyze open source information and intelligence to develop actions to disrupt illicit financial activity such as money laundering and terrorist financing.
