In an effort to illuminate the fundamentally interlocking parts of these supply chains and expose students to the role future policymakers can have in shaping these systems, this course will provide an overview of two large-scale global supply chains followed by an interactive component requiring students to respond in real-time to several simulated shocks while crafting policy recommendations to a senior industry executive or government official. students will learn how to identify, assess, and mitigate supply chain risks while considering the geopolitical levers of control available to policymakers. Taught as an introductory course with no requirement for prior knowledge of supply chain management (SCRM), the class will provide students with an opportunity to learn more about the intricate systems that govern the global flow of goods, ideas, natural resources and intellectual property. Finally, this workshop series will be underpinned by an ongoing examination of the intersection between national interests and supply chain risk management.
