Acquiring and refining the overarching as well as situational awareness, emotional intelligence, critical knowledge, and communications strategies are underestimated prerequisites for career success. Acquisition of these skills are largely presumed and unspoken, and defaulted to on-the-job experiential learning. This course offers a five pillar framework 1) trust, 2) expertise, 3) communication, 4) consistency, and 5) leadership with action points charting out not only the theory, but actual scenarios and steps in the application of these skills towards better job performance and mission success, with the collateral advantage of cultivating an integrated and collaborative workplace. In-class exercises and action points under each pillar will outline and demonstrate the process in operationalizing the concepts. Leaders from the international affairs and national security industries will engage students with actual cases to examine how the evaluation of options and choices made, along with the strategies in situational shaping can critically impact success or failure.
