The course will seek to provide elementary vocabulary, main structures and basic rules of grammar in a steady, progressive, direct and lively fashion. It is hoped to avoid as much as possible reference to and translation from English, as well as mechanical study of grammar during the lessons. The method aims to help students to think in Italian from the start, and to understand and deduce the rules rather than simply applying them. A detailed course syllabus listing communicative functions, grammatical points and discourse markers, will be available at the beginning of each week. An instructor will be available for consultation with students 1 afternoon per week. This course is designed to be combined with preterm economics course. The course does not carry credit and will be dropped from the transcript once preterm is over.
